2. What data we collect

When you sign up and use Finders Feed, we collect the following personal data:

Account information: your name, email address, company name (if provided), and an encrypted password.

Subscription preferences: the industry categories and postcode areas you select for your alerts.

Payment information: if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your card details. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/gb/privacy.

Usage data: records of alerts sent to you and companies matched to your filters.

Technical data: when you visit our website, we may collect your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. We use analytics cookies with your consent - see section 10 for details.

3. How we use your data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

To provide our service: matching newly registered companies to your chosen industries and locations, and sending you email alerts.

To manage your account: allowing you to log in, update your preferences, and manage your subscription.

To process payments: handling subscription billing through our payment processor, Stripe.

To communicate with you: sending service-related emails such as alerts, account notifications, renewal reminders (for annual subscribers), and important updates about our service.

To improve our service: understanding how our service is used so we can make it better.

4. Lawful basis for processing

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), we rely on the following lawful bases for processing your personal data:

Contract: processing your data is necessary to provide the service you have subscribed to (Article 6(1)(b)).

Legitimate interests: we may process data to improve our service and ensure its security, where this does not override your rights (Article 6(1)(f)).

Consent: where we send you any marketing communications beyond your subscribed alerts, we will ask for your consent first. You can withdraw consent at any time.

5. Where your data comes from

The company data included in your alerts (company names, registered addresses, sector classifications, director names) is sourced from Companies House, the official UK government register. This data is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0 and is publicly available. We do not collect or process any personal data about the directors of newly registered companies beyond what is already publicly available on the Companies House register.

6. Who we share your data with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with third parties. We share your data only with the following service providers who help us run Finders Feed:

Mailgun (email delivery): to send your alert emails. Mailgun processes data in accordance with their privacy policy at mailgun.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Stripe (payments): to process subscription payments. Stripe processes data in accordance with their privacy policy at stripe.com/gb/privacy.

Hetzner (hosting): our server is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in their European data centres. Hetzner's privacy policy is available at hetzner.com/legal/privacy-policy.

7. How we protect your data

We take the security of your data seriously. We use the following measures to protect it:

All data is transmitted over HTTPS (SSL/TLS encryption). Your password is stored using bcrypt hashing and is never stored in plain text. Access to our server is restricted by firewall and SSH authentication. Our database is hosted on a secured server with restricted access.

8. How long we keep your data

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription and close your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or accounting purposes.

Alert history (records of companies matched to your filters) will be deleted along with your account data.

9. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights:

Right of access: you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Right to rectification: you can ask us to correct any inaccurate data. You can also update your name, company, and password directly from your dashboard.

Right to erasure: you can ask us to delete your personal data. We will do so within 30 days unless we have a legal obligation to retain it.

Right to restrict processing: you can ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.

Right to data portability: you can request your data in a machine-readable format (CSV).

Right to object: you can object to our processing of your data where we rely on legitimate interests.

Right to withdraw consent: where we process data based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
